This I2C backpack module can be mounted on the back side of an LCD to enable I2C control which will only require only 4 wires, 5V, GND, SDA, and SCL. The I2C address of the module can be changed, see Solder Jumper Configurable I2C Addresses link below under Resources.

After finding the backpacks for the multi-line-displays, I add them to ALL the older displays that were purchased before they were abundant.  They make Arduino/XOD programming of Arduinos so much cleaner and the hardware much neater.
